From Arts in Guelph- July/August, 2004
For a city that is already gaining a reputation as a dance-friendly place, this summer marks another milestone in local efforts to make dance accessible to everyone and generally to broaden the audiences for the art form.
The newest initiative is Dusk Dances, a very popular summer event that has brought contemporary and traditional dance to public parks across Canada for more than ten years. On the evenings of July 15 to 18, 2004, Dusk Dances host Diana Tso will lead the gathered crowd through Guelph's Exhibition Park to various performance sites. Five whimsical dances will be performed, including the "street smart" Sneaker; a duo of "synchronized swimmers with a couple of wading pools"; a classical Indian dance; a work involving bungee cords suspended from a tree; and the award-winning work A Flock of Flyers.
Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival is co-producing this event which promises to be a wonderful addition to the Guelph dance scene. Start time is 7 p.m. each evening and admission is "pay-what-you can."
