Plume Writers' Circle to Publish Anthology - The Plume Writers' Circle, a grass-roots organization with members from all walks of indigenous life who give voice to Aboriginal issues in this community through a range of writing, has received funding from the Ontario Arts Council to publish an Anthology of Local Emerging Writers. Federal Funding Cuts Affect the Cultural Community - On September 25, 2006, the federal government announced a broad set of cuts to federal government expenditures. The $1 billion of spending cuts was aimed at cutting areas which, in the government's opinion, were not providing good value for the money, were inefficient or were not core to the government's priorities. Art for Humanity - When well-known humanitarian Stephen Lewis comes to Guelph's River Run Centre on September 15, 2006, he will be giving a lecture in support of local Dr. Anne-Marie Zajdlik's efforts to raise $1 million for an AIDS Clinic in Lesotho in Southern Africa. At the same time, local potter Heather Dayomd will be on hand selling the 200 tea bowls that she has crafted especially for the occasion. She will donate all proceeds from these sales to the Masai for Africa project. Read more.

Tete-à-tete Showcases Fibre Arts - Here's an exhibit guaranteed to stimulate your senses and challenge your intellect! It showcases the works of Connections, a group 30 talented fibre artists based across Canada and the U.K. The exhibit will take place at the Wellington County Museum & Archives September 9 to November 5. All are welcome to the opening on Sunday, September 10, 2 to 4 p.m. Read more.

Fergus Theatre Festival Features Song & Dance - For those seeking a unique summer theatre experience, the Fergus Grand Theatre awaits. Located in charming downtown Fergus on the banks of the Grand River, the historical edifice is now home to the new Fergus Theatre Festival. The inaugural summer season presents three lively musicals, each running for one week. Read more.

Mosaic Sculpture Wall at Riverside Park - It has brought together people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, and will culminate in the creation of a legacy art piece dedicated to the City of Guelph. A large mosaic sculpture wall is currently being created and will be installed at the Guelph Enabling Garden (GEG) in Riverside Park. Read more.

Historical Restoration Project at GCVI - As one of the oldest secondary schools in Ontario, Guelph Collegiate-Vocational Institute (GCVI) has acquired an extensive array of archives including historic team photographs and works of art. Read more.

Royal City Quilters' Guild Celebrates - The Royal City Quilters' Guild has been a good fit with this community from the very beginning. In February 1991, founding member Evelyn Lane took out ads in local newspapers and put up dozens of flyers to ascertain whether there was interest in starting a Guelph guild. She had hoped at least six people would call, the minimum number recommended by the Canadian Quilters' Association. Needless to say, she was thrilled and extremely encouraged when twenty people responded. Read more.
